Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Monday, June 18, 2007) - Major League Soccer comes to town tomorrow, Tuesday, June 19th as the Kickers host an MLS Exhibition featuring four-time MLS Cup Champion D.C. United at 7:00 p.m. (gates open at 5:30 p.m.) at the University of Richmond Stadium (just off the Downtown Expressway). Additionally, fans can enjoy music on the main concourse courtesy of the rock band Against Grace. General admission tickets for the exhibition match are $15/person and can be ordered in advance via www.RichmondKickers.com until noon on game day. Pro Passes, Season Tickets and Sponsor Tickets will not be accepted. Regular discounts do not apply.

"We look forward to hosting DC United and testing ourselves against top class opposition," comments Richmond Kickers Head Coach Leigh Cowlishaw. "It is always a great occasion for our community to watch the best club in MLS right here in Richmond."

As a charter member of MLS, four-time MLS Cup Champion (1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004) D.C. United is in its 12th season of play. This year's exhibition will mark the eighth meeting between the two clubs with United leading the series 3-2-1. United made their last appearance in Richmond last season for a short-lived exhibition match, during which continuous inclement weather forced the game to be suspended in the 20th minute and ultimately terminated after a one-hour delay due to lightning. Previously, D.C. United traveled to Richmond during the U.S. Open Cup, coming away with a 3-1 victory in 2005 in the Fourth Round, one year after the Kickers ousted the Black-and-Red, 2-1, in the Third Round of the 2004 tournament.

"We are pleased to once again return to Richmond," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We always enjoy playing against the Kickers and we look forward to a great evening of soccer."

Season tickets, Sponsor Tickets, Pro Passes and Coach's Passes will not be accepted at the DC United exhibition match. Normal discounts do not apply. Season Ticket holders and groups of 20+ can purchase tickets at a discounted rate ($13/person) by calling (804) 644-KICK. Children under three are admitted free and there is no charge for parking.

Host Bone Marrow Drive On The Concourse Tuesday

The Richmond Kickers are pleased to host a Bone Marrow Drive through the National Marrow Donor Program of Virginia on the main concourse during the Kickers exhibition match featuring D.C. United of Major League Soccer on Tuesday, June 19th. The Bone Marrow Drive will benefit former Hermitage High School and University of Illinois soccer player Laura Redmond who was diagnosed with leukemia in April. The $25.00 fee to join the registry will be waived for the first 100 people to volunteer.

The National Bone Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) helps people who need a life-saving marrow or blood cell transplant, connecting patients, doctors, donors and researchers to resources they need to help more people live longer, healthier lives. The Kickers Bone Marrow Drive strives to locate potential donors not only for Redmond but also for other leukemia patients.

The initial screening process is brief and virtually painless. Participants, who must be 18 or older, will be asked to complete a short medical survey with the test requiring a cotton swabbing on the inside of the cheek. For more information about bone marrow donation, contact the National Marrow Donor Program of Virginia at (804) 288-9483 or visit www.marrow.org.

Regular Season & US Open Cup Updates

The Kickers remain within one point of the USL2 standings leader with a record of 7-0-2, 23 points and two games in hand. Most recently Richmond posted their sixth shutout of the season with a 4-0 romp over the Bermuda Hogges last night during regular season play. Midfielder Mike Burke registered a goal on a curling free kick just outside the box as well as two assists. Forward Robert Ssejjemba tallied a pair of second half goals while newcomer David Bulow struck with his third goal in four games played.

Despite a three-hour lightning day midway through the Kickers First Round US Open Cup match last week, Richmond was able to oust the Michigan Bucks (PDL) from tournament play by a 4-2 scoreline. The Kickers have advanced to the Second Round to host the unbeaten Cleveland City Stars on Tuesday, June 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Richmond Stadium. The eight winners of the Second Round will move on to host one of eight MLS team in the Third Round, including another potential pairing with DC United.

Meanwhile in MLS, DC United sits mid-table in the Eastern Conference with a record of 5-3-2 and 17 points in 10 games played. Last time out, United extended their unbeaten run to seven games, handing a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Fire last Saturday. With United veteran Jaime Moreno on Bolivian National Team duty, midfielder Rod Dyachenko earned his first start of the season where he registered his first professional goal for D.C. In his first season with DC United, forward Luciano Emilio notched a pair of goals in United's win over the weekend, his fourth and fifth of the season.
